DATA PRIVACY
This privacy notice for FableReads ('we', 'us', or 'our'), describes how and why we might collect, store, use, and/or share ('process') your information when you use our services ('Services'), such as when you: Visit our website at https://www.fablereads.com, or any website of ours that links to this privacy notice. Engage with us in other related ways, including any sales, marketing, or events.
1. WHAT PERSONAL DATA WE COLLECT
- Basic Identifiers: e.g., name or email address (only if voluntarily submitted)
- Usage Data: pages visited, time on site, click patterns (via cookies/analytics)
- Consent Preferences: choices made through our cookie banner
We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without parental consent.
When you create a reader account, we store your name, email address and account identifier. Saved reader data includes your onboarding role, preferred language, selected topic identifiers, setup progress, likes, bookmarks, playlist names and entries, and playlist audio-language choices. We use these to provide sign-in, your library and reading preferences across supported web and mobile features. Profile lets you change your reading preferences.
2. HOW WE USE YOUR DATA
- To improve user experience and website performance
- To provide requested services or respond to inquiries
- To analyze and optimize traffic
- To comply with legal obligations
We never sell or rent your data.
3. LEGAL BASIS FOR PROCESSING
- Consent: for optional cookies and cookie-based analytics
- Legitimate Interest: to improve site functionality
- Legal Obligation: to comply with applicable laws
4. YOUR RIGHTS UNDER GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access your data
- Correct or delete your data
- Restrict or object to processing
- Withdraw consent at any time
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority
To exercise your rights, contact us at: hello@fablereads.com
5. COOKIES AND TRACKING
We use cookies to improve your experience. You can manage your preferences through our consent banner.
- Necessary cookies – always active
- Analytics cookies – optional, require your consent
- Advertising cookies – disabled by default
Cookie-based analytics and Clarity recordings start only after you accept. You can reject cookies or withdraw consent in Cookie settings. This disables analytics storage and full tracking; basic cookieless page-view measurement continues. Withdrawal does not delete previously collected data; contact us to request deletion.
Necessary browser storage remembers sign-in, unfinished account actions, tour dismissals, local likes and cookie choices. A cookie remembers your theme. Profile also provides language, theme and Cookie settings. Creating an account does not grant consent to optional analytics; cookie choices remain separate.
6. DATA SECURITY
We implement industry-standard security practices including:
- HTTPS encryption
- Secure cloud infrastructure
- Access control measures
7. DATA RETENTION
We keep your data only as long as necessary for the stated purposes or as required by law.
To delete your shared FableReads account, open Profile, choose Delete my account and confirm the irreversible action. We remove the active reader records from our database before deleting the Cognito account. Browser cleanup removes FableReads sign-in and preference storage in the current browser. It cannot clear another browser, downloaded mobile data or your Apple account. If deletion is interrupted, some records may already be removed; return to Profile to retry or contact hello@fablereads.com.
Reader account and saved-library data are retained while the account is active, unless you delete individual records or the account. Account deletion does not automatically erase previously collected analytics, security logs or backup copies. Backups expire under their configured retention periods. Contact hello@fablereads.com about these records or other erasure requests.
8. INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS
If your data is transferred outside the EU/EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
9. THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
We may use third-party tools and services that process data on our behalf, including but not limited to:
Amazon Cognito provides shared account authentication; AWS AppSync and DynamoDB store reader-library and onboarding data in the US East (Northern Virginia) region. Apple supplies account information when you choose Sign in with Apple, subject to its own privacy policy.
- Analytics providers (e.g., Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, PostHog) – to understand website usage and performance
- Email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp) – to manage subscriptions and send communications
- Hosting providers – to securely host our website and store data
Before acceptance, including after rejection, PostHog counts page views without storing visitor or session identifiers in your browser. We send the page address without query strings or fragments, site hostname and page language. PostHog processes the request IP address and browser user agent to calculate a daily hash; we do not link these views to an account. We use PostHog to understand website traffic and improve the reading experience. With your consent, it records page visits and departures, timestamps, referring pages, browser and device information, language, approximate location, and randomly generated visitor and session identifiers. PostHog uses first-party cookies and browser storage to recognize visits. Our PostHog project is hosted in the United States. We do not enable PostHog session recordings or automatic capture of clicks and form contents on this website.
We also use Google Analytics for traffic measurement and Microsoft Clarity for interaction analysis, heatmaps and session recordings, after cookie consent. Google Tag Manager loads the Google and Clarity tags. These tools help us understand how visitors use the website and improve it.
These providers process information under the applicable service terms, data-processing agreements and privacy policies. Their policies explain their data practices:
